Esteban Chaves, the Colombian cycling sensation, has left an indelible mark on the professional cycling circuit, particularly during his tenure with the Greenedge Cycling Team. Known for his climbing prowess and tenacity, Chaves has celebrated numerous triumphs that have solidified his status as one of Colombia’s cycling icons.

One of the most remarkable victories in Chaves’ career came in 2016 when he claimed 2nd place at the Giro d’Italia. His exceptional climbing abilities were on full display throughout the race, showcasing his resilience and determination in the face of challenging mountain stages.

Another highlight in Chaves’ cycling career with the Greenedge team was his third place at the 2016 Vuelta a España, where he secured a place on the podium with a remarkable and gutsy breakaway on  Stage 20. The gruelling three-week Grand Tour showcased Chaves’ consistency and endurance, further cementing his reputation as a formidable contender in the professional cycling scene.

Notably, Esteban Chaves achieved many of his stellar results while riding the awesome Scott Addict bicycle – one of which we have in our Flandrien Hotel collection. This high-performance bike seemed to perfectly complement Chaves’ riding style, contributing to his success in various races.

Founded in 1958 by Ed Scott, Scott Sports emerged as a pioneering force in the cycling industry. Initially focusing on ski poles, the Swiss company diversified into cycling in 1986 with the introduction of the first aero handlebar.

When released in 2013, the Addict X Team Issue was one of the Lightest production frame/fork combinations on the market at just 995g in a 54cm.  Fitted with DuraAce Di2 groupset and DuraAce C35 tubular climbing wheels, the full Orica GreenEdge bike of Chavez came in well under the UCI minimum weight limit of 6.8kg. To make the bike UCI legal, team mechanics had to add some weights inside the bottom bracket area.

Recognized for innovation and performance, Scott continually pushed boundaries, introducing the first carbon mountain bike in 1995 and pioneering the development of ultra lightweight carbon fibre road bikes.
